How Do You Talk To A Goat?

Song: How Do You Talk To A Little Baby Goat
Written By: Tom T. Hall
Performed By: Tom T. Hall
From the 1974 Album: Songs of Fox Hollow

Hall originally wrote the songs for his young nephews to explain the workings of a farm and the animals who lived there - and the tracks have a charming, innocent feel.

(I know I have used a song from this album before, but I think the songs are wonderful and fun. Hope you enjoy!)

How do you talk to a little baby goat?

(My daughter - Beech Bend Park Petting Zoo
She named it Oreo)

You can't go meow like a cat.
When you go meow to a little baby goat.
He can't go meow right back.

(Neighborhood kitten)

No, you have to say baaa to a little baby goat, you can't say hello like a man.

You have to say baaa to a little baby goat that's all he understands.

(My niece - Jackson's Orchard Petting Zoo)

How do you talk to a little baby goat.

You can't go cackle like a hen.
When you go cackle to a little baby goat, it doesn't mean a thing to him.
So you have to say baaa to a little baby goat.
You can't saw hello like a man.
You have to say baaa to a little baby goat that's all he understands.
(Ex-husband's chickens)

How do you talk to a little baby goat?

(My niece - Jackson's Orchard Petting Zoo)

You can't go quack like a duck.
When you go quack to a little baby goat, it just doesn't mean very much.

(Basil Griffith Park)

So you can't go
meow

(Neighborhood kitten)

cackle

(Ex-husband's chicken)

quack
to a goat.

(Basil Griffith Park)

You can't say hello like a man (or woman).

(Waving Girl Statute - Savannah, Georgia)

You can't go meow, cackle, quack to a goat.

Remember you have to say baaa.....
(Nubian/Flop Eared Goat - Louisville Zoo)

A BIG Thanks to Hootin' Anni for hosting, Thursday Theme Song, the wonderfully fun meme that gives me an avenue for stress relief.

With the passing of a dear lady this week, (my sister's Mother-In-Law), and the worries about my brother, (who thankfully lost only a toe as opposed to a foot or leg due to a bone infection), this meme has helped me to relax a bit while looking back and remembering fun times too. This particular song has been stuck in my head, for some unknown reason.
Below are the links for a couple of the other songs from this album, if you care to give a listen.

(This version not sung by Tom T. Hall but, very cute video)

  2. The Nubian goats are cute, but I think Oreo is the cutest little baby goat I've ever seen.

  3. First off, what a beautiful smile in the first image! I must say...it's contagious. And the song...oh the song, too precious for words, and your images are just plain, truly, enjoyable!!

    Once again, great job.

  4. What a cute song, I think it's going to be stuck in my head now. Your photos are all great, I love the kittens and goats and all the animals. Your niece looks like she was really enjoying the petty zoo.

Your photo of the Waving Girl brought back a lot of memories of visits to Savannah. I haven't been there in years but I remember it well.
