This House Has Gone To The Dogs

This is our little Pekingese/Pomeranian mix dog. We have had him for about 3 1/2 years.
He was bought for my daughter and was supposed to be "Her" dog.

But, you know how those things go. The kid drives you nuts until you get them the pet they want. They promise to take care of it and feed it and clean up after it etc, etc... That last for a short time. Then you end up doing everything.

That is how it has been with Peanut. I am the one that takes care of him. He has become My dog.

For the most part, I don't mind. He is a pretty good dog, though a bit aggressive at times.

In February, 2011 Lindsey went to visit her Dad and came home with a puppy. A Jack Russell/Chihuahua mix that she named, "Sophie".

Peanut was not too sure about another dog being in the house. He was quick to let her know just who was boss.
After a few weeks they settled into a co-existance.
But, for me, it became twice the work. Especially since Sophie was not house broken and Peanut began wanting to "mark" his territory.

Peanut stays in our laundry room when we are gone and Sophie would stay in her crate. We tried leaving both of them in the laundry room, but that didn't work.

I hated leaving Sophie locked in a crate all day so I started taking her to work with us. At first this wasn't too bad, but as Sophie grew and got heavier, it became alot of trouble.

Our clients loved her, she is such a

sweet dog.

But, she is a very high strung dog and was constantly into something.

By May I just couldn't do it anymore. So we gave Sophie away.

We were back to one dog.
Peanut was happy to be the center of attention again.

Able to lay in sun puddles without being disturbed, except for Mom snapping a picture or two.

Until...

A Husky named, "Buddy". An early Valentines Day gift from Lindsey's boyfriend entered the picture.

Buddy is a beautiful and a very good natured dog.

He doesn't reside at our house. He lives with Tyler, Lindsey's boyfriend, except for occassional visits.

Peanut was a bit afraid of Buddy, at first. I guess their size difference had alot to do with that.

However, by the third visit, Peanut began to let Buddy know that this is His house.

They are actually rather funny. Buddy wants to play and Peanut just wants to be left alone.

Patio Shadows

I haven't had much of an opportunity to find many shadows these past few weeks. We have had alot of rainy or cloudy days. But, I did manage to find a couple of photos that I had taken a few weeks ago.

This is the patio in my back yard. From my kitchen window I can see the sun casting shadows on the bricks at different angles throughout the day. I have tried many times to capture these shadows to no avail.

Now that I have the new camera, I am finally able to capture them.

I even managed to get a close up shot.

While I was taking the above photos, I noticed that the curtain on my kitchen window was creating interesting shadows on the cabinets.

So I snapped a few shots of that too.

However, I am not sure you can really see the details of the lace in the shadow from this photo.

New Camera

My husband bought a new used camera recently. It is a NIKON D50. I have been playing around with it for the past few days. Just seeing what it will do and comparing it to my little Sony Cybershot.

I can't believe the trees have buds on them....in January!!

Can't resist a cloud shot.

Looking out my front door, I saw this shadow on the roadway. So I grabbed the camera, but by the time I got it out of the case, turned on, and focused the shadow was gone. I had to wait a few minutes for the sun to peek back out.

I think the shadow was more noticible the second time anyway

I love the color of this bush in my backyard.

Another back yard favorite is the little berry bush. We also have one of these in the front, but it is smaller than this one. I usually am not out in the yard at this time of the morning, so I was happy to have found these wonderful shadows being cast against the bricks of the house.

With the new camera, I was able to get a really close up shot of the shadow.

I like playing and experimenting with the settings on the camera. It is probably going to take me a while to learn how to use the camera and all it's settings. I look forward to all the photos I will take while learning.

A BIG Thanks to Hootin' Anni for hosting, Thursday Theme Song, the wonderfully fun meme that gives me an avenue for stress relief.

With the passing of a dear lady this week, (my sister's Mother-In-Law), and the worries about my brother, (who thankfully lost only a toe as opposed to a foot or leg due to a bone infection), this meme has helped me to relax a bit while looking back and remembering fun times too. This particular song has been stuck in my head, for some unknown reason.

Let The Sun Shine

I have, yet another, sinus infection. Went to the Dr. on Thursday and was given a shot and an antibiotic. I feel much better, but I think I could sleep all day, which is a rare thing for me. I actually took a nap today. I haven't done that in a long time.

For the past year my brother, who is diabetic, has been struggling with a wound on his foot that just doesn't want to heal. It would get better for awhile but, has never healed completely. He had a Dr. appointment on Tuesday and was admitted to the hospital. They did some tests and found that the infection was into the bone. So, on Friday his toe had to be removed. Thankfully the infection was confined to the big toe and the surgeon feels that this will get rid of the infection and that the heavy duty antibiotics he is taking will finally let this heal.

My sister's Mother-in-law has been battling ovarian cancer. She had been doing okay but, learned last week that the cancer has spread. She was taken off chemo and told all that could be done was to keep her comfortable. I think this news has taken away her will to fight. She is now bed ridden and not doing good at all.

I choose this picture for Shadow Shot Sunday because it shows that despite what is going on in ours lives or around us, that the suns rays still shine upon us giving us hope for a brighter tomorrow.

Bird Shadows

This is my first post for the Shadow Shot Sunday 2 Meme. I have visited some of the post over the past few Sundays but, haven't posted until now. The new Hosts seem to be doing a Great Job and I thought it was time that I get back into the groove of posting again!

Going along with my last post's theme, I am sharing a few photos taken in my back yard of some of my little bird visitors.

I have always liked watching birds. I don't really care for them getting too close. I don't want to hold them or have one as a pet. But, I enjoy hearing their bird songs, watching them visit my feeders and flying through the air. Some of them move so gracefully as they soar along. I am not fond of when they dive at me or near me like the barn swallows and martins do when catching mosquitoes.

This little bird took a liking to my hubby's car.

I really like it when I look out my window and see a sea of color from the beautiful Cardinals. They are the State Bird of Kentucky!!

The Cardinal's color really shows up against the snow.

And, they left alot of little bird tracks in the snow of my patio.

For a week in June 2010, Peter Cooper and Eric Brace rounded up fellow Tom T. fans and headed to Fox Hollow, the farm that inspired “Songs of Fox Hollow” and is still home to Tom T. and Dixie Hall. Over three magical days in this idyllic setting just south of Nashville, they recorded the eleven songs that made up the original Songs of Fox Hollow, plus a brand new tune written especially for this release by Tom T. and Dixie.

The original Songs of Fox Hollow was born one long-ago summer, when two young nephews of Tom T. and Dixie Hall spent the summer roaming the farm and asking Tom T. a host of questions about the land and the animals. To the kids, Fox Hollow was a place of activity and enchantment, and pretty soon Tom T.’s answers began to rhyme.

This is an album that I listened to alot when I was younger. I actually still have the record today. My sister loved this album. It came with a little story book that went along with the songs. She wanted to listen to it constantly and I usually played it for her. I tried to find Tom T. Hall's version of the song, but could not, so I added Mr. Cooper's version.

Watching the birds has become one of my favorite things to do these days. I have four bird feeders in my back yard now and can see them from my kitchen and living room windows. I enjoy hearing their songs in the early mornings and watching the birds fly in, hop around the trees and ground, and visit the feeders for a few seeds. They are rather funny at times the way they chase one another or react to each other.

There has been a squirrel that has tried its best to reach the feeders, but is too heavy for the branches that the feeders hang on and the birds dive at him chasing him away.

One morning a bird hovered directly in front of me at the window. I had my camera in my hand, but it was zoomed in on the feeder and by the time I got over being startled by the bird and raised the camera to snap a quick shot it was gone. All I captured was the tree. And, of course no one believes that it happened and it will never in a million years happen again.

Been MIA for a bit... Sinus infection, Sudden death of a Childhood Friend/Neighbor while growing up, Dentist appointment, Hubby's follow up Urologist appointment, and Neighbor's heart scare excitement. Whew.... it has been a rough couple of weeks and these events have taken their toll on me and my Christmas Spirit. But, I am back and trying to find some sense of normalacy again.

First Snowflakes Of The Season

This week started off with rain, rain, rain. I think we received around two inches in one day and there were flash flood warnings for several of the surrounding counties.

By Wednesday the temperatures had dropped and we saw our first snowflakes of the season.

For a couple of hours the snow was falling at a really fast rate. It was a very wet snow and melted as soon as it hit the roadway.

It did leave a very light dusting on the grassy areas for a little while.

But, soon the clouds rolled away and the sun popped out.

The funny thing was how it left rain drops on all the trees and bushes.

It was so pretty and was like they were stuck or frozen there.

I was so glad to see the sun. And, of course with the sun comes the hunt for shadows,

like the little tree on my way to the Post Office.

Well this has been another fun post for me. This song is from one of my favorite Christmas Albums. My kids have always loved it. When my son was little we would visit Twitty City, (Conway Twitty's Home), every year at Christmas time. They would have the houses decorated with lights. They also had Santa's Workshop, various displays of Christmas scenes and songs from this album playing as you walked through the different sections. The song in my post was a little skit that they acted out. The kids loved it!
On our first visit, I bought the album. My brothers teased me saying that I paid too much for it and that I could have gotten it alot cheaper from a retail store. But, when one of my brothers tried to find it, he was suprised to find that it was only available at Twitty City. So this album is special to me.
We have enjoyed many Christmases listening to this album and it has become a tradition to listen to it as we open gifts.

This Week In Review

This week started off with rain, and plenty of it. It rained all day on Monday and part of the day Tuesday. On these days I just want to stay inside, but there are things that need to be done so up and at it I go.

While I was taking the dog out I saw how this tree's image was reflecting in the roadway.

The leaves on this tree were constantly dripping with water. The dog, hearing the water hitting the ground below kept barking at the tree. Silly Dog!

But finally, Wednesday brought the sun and it was a welcome sight.

I noticed this shadow on the side of the house from the table and chair on my front porch.

I also noticed these lovely shadows on the ground from the tables and chairs of the little Cafe where we had lunch on Thursday. I love the pattern of the iron furniture. I know soon these will be stored away until spring.

It has been a busy week for us. Alot of paper went out of our office this week. I tease my husband, telling him that we killed a tree this week, with all the things that we send out in the mail.
My daughter has her first job now. So we had to buy her a few things for her to wear for work.
We also have a few home repair projects in the works. Both here at home and at my rental house, which my son lives in. We had to make a Lowes run for supplies.
I am looking forward to a short work week this coming week. Maybe even sleep in a little. Also, looking forward to some Thanksgiving yummies and time with family!

Shadows And Sunsets Along The Highway

Over the past few weeks I have enjoyed my drive home in the evenings so much.

The leaves have been so full of color and the sunsets have been beautiful.

This particular road is one of my favorites to travel. It is a winding country road of mainly farm land, that circles from the main road to Beech Bend, a local Theme Park/Camping Ground/Race Track. One of the farms has the wooden fences along the entire farm. It is always well kept. This stretch is always so pretty with the line of trees casting their shadow on the roadway.

Several evenings the sky has been a bit cloudy and the sun has given those clouds such a brilliant red color. I love it.

Certain spots along the way have openings in the tree lines so that the view is spectactular. It makes me want to stop and take pictures every time.

With Veteran's Day Tomorrow, I thought I would dedicate this post to ALL the soldiers who sacrifice their lives for us everyday and for the ones who have given their lives in the line of duty serving our country. I am so very Proud to know All the men in these pictures and I Do indeed sleep with peace knowing that they are willing to give their all for this wonderful country in which we live.
I wanted to add some pictures that I remember seeing when I was a kid of my Great-Uncles and my Grandfather, but I have been so sick this past week that I haven't had a chance to ask my Aunts if they have copies of the pictures. Maybe I will be able to use them in a future post.

The first one is my Daddy when he was probably in his early 20's. Second one is heading from Savannah, Georgia into South Carolina. The next three are some of the beautiful back roads that I get the pleasure of traveling daily if I choose to. The next one is the view of the sun rising in my back yard. Then we have a view from the main road into our community. Next is Atlanta Airport seen from the plane that took 45 min. to taxi into the terminal. Another view from a back road. Me and my kids. And, the last one is of deer, of course, near the roadway. (They were heading towards the road, until I blew my horn).

Hometown Scenery

This week I have enjoyed the drive to and from the office so much. The stretches of highway are becoming quite beautiful to travel.

I have driven a few of the back roads on my way home to enjoy the wonderful Fall views.

The road to this old bridge is not heavily traveled so I can stop to shoot a picture or two with no problem. The bridge has wonderful shadows too, so it was a photo must.

This time of year as I am driving I am always on the look out for deer and turkey. There are a few areas in particular that they are often seen. My husband met up with a deer about a week ago, he has a big dent in the hood of his car now, courtesy of Mr. Buck.

I happened upon two turkeys this week. I always slow way down when I see them, as they will run across the road in front of you sometimes. There was no traffic on the road, so I was able to stop and capture this shot. I tried to get a photo of the two of them, but they ran off into the woods before I could get another shot.

Many yards are covered with leaves, making them such a beautiful fall scene.

I zoomed in on the leaves not noticing the shadow in the shot until I put the picture on my computer. An added plus. I guess it is the tree's branches casting the shadow, as there wasn't anything in the yard except the tree... and me.

Several yards in the area have these beautiful Burning Bush shrubs in them. I have always thought these were so nice with their brilliant deep red color. This yard has two of the larger ones in the area, their color is a little more dull than most of the smaller ones, but they are still quite beautiful.

Many barns are housing tobacco crops, just waiting for the farmers to begin the stripping process. With rain being forecast for the coming week, I am sure the farmers will be starting this process. The Holidays are right around the corner and they will be needing shopping money.

I know in the past, when we raised tobacco, we tried to take advantage of the fall rains to get as much tobacco stripped and sale ready before the holidays as we possibly could.
