Around Bowling Green

A few more of the pictures I took last weekend.


Lindsey and Natalie enjoyed walking around on campus. It was a perfect day for it and it gave them different backgrounds for their pictures.

Fountains Square Archway.

I caught them off guard in this one. But, as you can see, they were having a good day.

I enjoyed walking around on Western's campus myself. It really is a nice campus. Other than the hill. My old arthritic knees were sure given a work out.

I didn't intend to take this one of Cherry Hall in black and white, but it turned out okay.



This is the sign outside of Holly, it has been a big part of Bowling Green for many years and it is very near Western's campus.

I
love taking pictures of the rushing waters at teh Riverwalk. I can remember seeing them when I was a kid and thinking what a pretty sight it was and now as an adult, I still enjoy seeing them. I guess I just like the water.







I can remember when this was a bridge that cars drove over. Now it is part of the walking/bike trail at the Riverwalk.








I think this is the neatest little building. At night it is lit up and looks so pretty. I'm glad they didn't tear it down with all the construction for the baseball stadium. The city decided to keep it and did some renovating of the building and a bit of landscaping. I think it is neat.

Warm And Sunny

The weather this weekend has finally been warm and sunny. On Saturday we went downtown to the office. Michael had some things that he wanted to work on for awhile, so Lindsey and I left him there while we ran a few errands and drove around a bit. I had my camera with us, so we took a few pictures.

This is the water tower on what used to be called Hospital Hill (when the Hospital was there), now it is called Reservoir Hill. The tower can be seen from a number of locations around Bowling Green and has been painted with the Flag Theme for as long as I can remember.

Here we have Fountain Square Park. It is really a great place for taking pictures. Prom nights for the local schools usually start with taking pictures here. I love that the park is so close to the office, it is a nice place to take a walk on a warm day and in the summer they have the "Concerts In The Park" every Wednesday too.

This is our Justice Center, a place I'm becoming quite familiar with. It is at the end of the block from the office. Makes it convenient when we have to go over there for Court or for filings.

These next few pictures were taken at the River Walk. It is another great place for taking pictures. I like the water in the background.

I sneaked a shot of Lindsey soaking up the warm sunshine, which left her shadow on the ground.

I like the big map of Bowling Green in the walkway just before the bridge. I tried to get all of it in the picture, but you couldn't read it. It's really neat, it shows the location of all the little communities in Bowling Green. Bowling Green is the big star and Richardsville,(where we live), is at the top of the picture, just inside the square.

I had to get a shot of our new Bowling Green Baseball Park, home of the "Hot Rods".

Adam attended a game Friday night and had a great time.

Lindsey and I had a good time just getting outside in the warm sun and enjoying the views of Bowling Green. I took several more pictures and I'll try to post them in the next few days.

Ain't it the truth!!!!

Manic Monday - Taste

This weeks Manic Monday word is "Taste", what can I say about taste?

I guess I could talk about some of my favorite tastes.

Like a good fillet marinated in olive oil, garlic and a little Worcestershire sauce and then grilled to perfection. Added to some fresh garden vegetables, also grilled and then served over a bed of rice pilaf. Now that is a meal that makes your taste buds go crazy.

Or.....maybe some sea food. Shrimp Scampi, Garlic Shrimp, Cajun Shrimp, Grilled Shrimp, (I sound like Bubba from Forest Gump), or Tilapia like my Aunt Sandy makes, or Grilled Salmon like my hubby makes. Served with a salad or maybe some of those small red potatoes with butter and chives.

Or....we could talk about chicken. My taste buds like chicken just about anyway you can prepare it. Of course, you can NEVER go wrong with Chicken and Dumplings.

Boy, if we didn't have taste buds food sure would be dull.

I myself enjoy cooking and trying new tastes. Sometimes I like the old tried and true simple comfort foods, but I do like to play around in the kitchen and experiment with NEW and DIFFERENT Tastes. Kick it up a notch or sometimes put strange combinations of foods together. The trick is getting the kids to try it, that can be a challenge.

I keep telling my kids that their taste will change as they get older and that they should try new and different foods or even some that they have tried before. Try it and you may, I say. Every now and then they will give in and find that they do like it. The green eggs and ham theory.....

The Resuls Are In....

The Dr. that removed Lindsey's mole called Wednesday to give us the lab results. He said that everything was fine, it was not a melanoma, but what they call a Blue Nevi. He said to talk with our regular Dr. about further details.
So of course, I can't wait until Friday when our regular Dr. is to remove the stitches. I have to do my own research. Below is a summary of the information that I found.

Normal moles come in variety of colors, red, brown (in light and dark shades), black and the so-called blue nevi. Blue nevi begin as a normal mole with blue-black color. These moles appear as a result of the collection of melanocytes, (atypical cells located in the bottom layer of the skin’s epidermis). The dark blue color pigment usually runs deeper into the layers of the skin than the brown colored moles, and that is the reason for the blue color. Any change in blue nevi should be referred to the dermatologist for monitoring and testing. This blue mole, or lesion, is not a form of cancer, but it can take on the form of a tumor that can grow if not taken care of. Therefore, they are most often removed due to the potential for them to grow and their disfiguring appearance.

Blue nevi are more common in females than in the male population of any age.

Blue nevi can also become cancerous when triggered by over exposure to UV rays. Like any other colored mole, these moles should be kept from being exposed to the sun’s rays.

There is no method of preventing the production of blue nevi. This is a condition that develops on its own, no matter what one's habits are.

We visited our Family Physican today, he removed the stitches and confirmed everything that I read.

I am so very glad that it is nothing to worry about. I also want to thank everyone for their concern and their prayers for my baby girl. (she hates when I call her that)

Manic Monday - Birds

This week the Manic Monday word is "Bird". So here is my contrubution to the Meme. I must say that while I enjoy hearing a little bird chirping and singing their happy little song, I have to admit that I really don't care much for birds. If you could see what they do to my car ALL THE TIME, maybe you would understand. No matter where I park in my drive, they get my car......ugh. I've never had a good experience with a bird. The hummingbirds used to get caught in our garage and not be able to find their way out. Do you know how hard it is to catch a hummingbird. They would run into the walls trying to get out, we would finally catch them when they fell or if we got lucky throwing a towel and catching it inside, so that we could turn it loose outside again. We had to move the feeders away from the house altogether to keep them from coming into the garage.....stupid birds. Then there are the ones who would swoop and dive at me while I was mowing the grass. I hated that. I know they were trying to catch the insects, but they would get too close for my comfort.

Lindsey feels the same way about birdsthat I do. A few years ago, she and I had gone to Disney World for a week during Spring Break. We were walking along and out of the blue, a bird flew over us and left his little surprise right on top of Lindsey's head. She thought the woman walking in front of us had thrown something at her. It was kind of funny..... Lindsey kept trying to touch the bird droppings to wipe it off, and I had to keep grabbing her hands telling her she was just going to smear it. Finally we reached the bathroom where we could wash it off. She was soooo mad. And, to this day she hates birds.

Even on our honeymoon, I was walking along the beach. Paying close attention to the birds, keeping my distance and all of a sudden one flies right into me and starting pecking at me. Scared me half to death, I had to swat it away and go into the water to make it leave me alone.

I know that they serve a purpose and that we need birds. But I'll just keep my distance from them.

Moles...Hopefully Harmless

For the past month Lindsey and I have been watching a mole on her arm. It has been bothering her, itching, becoming raised, changing in color and even bled a little one day. So we made an appointment to have it looked at. Our family physician said that it indeed looked suspicious, and he set up an appointment with another one of the Drs. in the office that deals with moles. So yesterday we went in and the mole was removed. It was sent to the lab for investigation. Hopefully it will be nothing. Please keep her in your prayers.......
She goes back on April 3rd to have the stitches removed, hopefully we will know something then.

Bowling Green Update

I sure am glad to finally be having some warm weather. I have seen some March Lillies blooming and the time changes this weekend, so Spring will be here soon. Yayyyyyyy..... I am so ready for it.

We have been working, working, working. Michael's sister is no longer practicing in the same office with him, so we have spent this week getting everything set up again. Phone service, Email service, Networking his computer to mine, Copiers, still working on the Fax thing. I actually have my own office area now. I am officially the Receptionist/Assistant now. I love it. It is soooooo much better than working at Target. Having never worked in an office enviroment, I have learned alot, (Thanks greatly to my sister). I must say, the office is now so peaceful, with just Michael and me there. We work well together, granted we have to be careful to make sure that we get a bit of ME time. But so far we seem to be doing fine. The building is large enough that we could rent office space to someone or bring in a partner, and that is what we hope to do. The situation is becoming know in the community and the building is in a Prime location, so time will tell.

The kids are doing fine:
Adam is living in my rental house. He is trying to get a roommate to move in also. With him taking 19 hours of classes, he isn't working much and we need the help paying the bills. Hopefully he will find someone soon.
Lindsey is reaching the dating age.......Heaven help me........The subject has been brought up lately, she hasn't gone out on a date yet, but I know it is out there in the near future.
Hartsul is playing soccer. He has games every weekend and they play in alot of different places. Louisville, Cincinnatti, Owensborro, Nashville, St. Louis are a few of the places they have scheduled to play. He loves playing soccer, but it sure makes visitation a challenge.

Shadow Shot Sunday #4

I haven't taken any pictures this week, so I was forced to rumage through some old shots to come up with an entry for this Sundays shadow shot.

And, since it is cold and we have snow and I am SOOOOOO ready for warm weather, I decided to post some warm, sunny beach shots.

The first one was taken a few years ago. It is my daughter wading in the water of Fort Walton Beach in 2002. She was 7 then.

The next one is a walkway leading to the water near Hilton Head Island.

A short walk along the cool shadowed pathway leads to the bright sunshine of the beautiful beach.

The swing.......waiting for some one to come sit and soak up the beautiful scenery of the ocean at Tybee Island, Georgia.

This is one of my favorites, it is a Honeymoon shot from St. Augustine, with the sun casting shadows of the gaurd rail on the balcony atop the lighthouse.

Here the sun is shining brightly and casting my reflection in the wet sand of the Tybee Island waters.

All these beach pictures make me want to visit the beach. Hmmmmm........spring break is fast approaching. ; )

Shadow Shot

I was sitting in my living room the other night and I looked into the kitchen. What did I see, you ask? Shadows........ So I had to grab my camera and share my findings.

Being a Lighthousegal and lover of lighthouses, I have several of them in my kitchen, on top of my cabinets. The recessed lighting in the kitchen made some neat lighthouse shadows, at least I think so.

The lights were also leaving shadows of the ceiling fan on the wall.

Before joining this meme, I would have seen the shadows, but not really SEEN the shadows.

My New Laptop

I have wanted a laptop for a long long time. Finally I have one. I love it. My desk top computer is sooooooo old (like 10 years old) so I have wanted an updated one forever. It is so cool to be able to sit on the couch and be online and play my games and such.

I now have a Dell Vostro. It is promoted as a small business computer and I will be using it for business oriented things too. It will make it very easy to work from home. A big plus.

I think the weather is supposed to be rainy for the next few days so I don't have to feel guilty for staying in the house and playing on the computer. That is if I can get the laptop before Lindsey gets it. So hopefully I will be able to post more often in the upcoming days. Yay!!!

Manic Monday- - Clouds

It is now Monday and the start of another week, hopefully one that doesn't include ice.

The Manic Monday topic is "Clouds". I have had a very hard time deciding which picture I wanted to post for this topic. I love watching clouds. Storm clouds to me are amazing. Seeing clouds from an airplane was the most awesome thing I've ever seen. I have taken pictures of the clouds sooooooo many times, I couldn't possibly count them all. So I decided to post a few of my favorites. I hope you enjoy them. The Ice Is Gone

For the past week we have had ice and snow. I have heard the sound of tree limbs falling to the ground for days. Alot of people have been without electricity and water. All the area schools have been closed. Several counties in our area still have people without electricity. The kids have enjoyed it, but I think we were all glad to see the sun shine today. The temperature went up and the ice began to melt. People were out cleaning up the tree limbs in their yards. And, there were alot of them to be cleaned up. Our whole community looks like a tornado has gone through it.

I was driving to the bank today, the sun was shining and I was glad to see the shadows on the ground. I'm sure all the electric company crews were glad to see the sun shining and the warmer temperatures too.

I couldn't resist taking a few pictures as I drove. I needed some pictures for my Shadow Shot Sunday post. If you would like to see some other shadow shots head over to Hey Harriet. (her link is in my side bar)

Girls really do love taking pictures. My daughter and her friends went outside yesterday to do just that. I have to admit, most of the time they get some good shots.

The weather man is saying we could get more snow on Monday. I think this time it is just going to be snow. Hopefully everyone will have their power back on before the next round of winter weather.

We Have Ice AND Snow

Well the weather man said it was coming and this time he got it right.
We received about 3/4 inch of ice. The temperature went up a little and the precipitation changed over to rain. Then the temperature went down again, the rain that had fallen froze and the snow started. We got about 1/2 inch of snow today on top of all the ice.
I took this picture yesterday morning. These are power lines in our back yard.
Our power was out yesterday morning for about 4 hours. It has gone off a few other times, but comes back on after a few minutes. Our cell phones were out most of the day yesterday. We had no signal at all. Finally last night our signals returned. Lindsey was more concerned about not having the usage of her phone than she was about having electricity. She is a true teenager......
She has enjoyed being out of school, for sure.
Peanut was confussed by the ice. The tree limbs breaking and making noise as they fell was driving him nuts. He would bark and carry on. So finally we let him look out the window so he could see what was going on.
Michael and I prepared for the weather by bringing home things from the office that we could work on. So we have had the leisure of sleeping in, but still getting work completed. I like this working at home stuff. I can cook and do laundry and still get documents and letters typed and ready to go out in the mail. I can even do this in my pj's if I want. Heck, let it snow.........

This picture is of one of the trees in our back yard. As you can see power lines go right through it. I was so afraid that the limbs were going to take out the lines, but back in the fall, the electric company came out and trimed the tree limbs around all the power lines. I guess it helped.

This is looking down the street, today alot of the limbs on these trees are in the road and the neighbors yard.

This tree is in our front yard. I took this picture yesterday. This morning, I think there is about as many limbs in the yard as there are on the tree.
I went to the mail box and was afraid to walk through the yard, as I normally do. Ice and limbs keep falling.
A couple of our neighbors have parked their cars in our driveway because of all the downed tree limbs.
Michael moved my car from the place I usually park it in, thank goodness, because there is a tree limb were my car usually sits.
