Church Shadows

This has been one crazy busy week. We have had three cases with large pleadings that had to be filed by Friday. One was a 90 page document once all the exhibits were added and it had to be driven to Simpson County, a county below us. The others weren't as large but were complicated.

On our way back from Simpson County, the hubby stopped at the Planning and Zoning Office for some information on another case. I sat in the car.

While sitting there watching cars and people pass by, I noticed shadows on the Church in front of me.
I love the way the cross was clearly seen in the shadow!

Richardsville Elementary

Richardsville Elementary School is a rural school in the northern part of Warren County, Kentucky, and can be seen from my front porch. Both of my kids have attended this school. My son from third to sixth grade and my daughter from kindergarten to sixth grade.

The school was founded in the early 1920's, first as a high school.

I am not sure when it made the transformation to an elementary school.

The school has undergone several changes in the structure of the building through the years.

This is how the school looked while my kids were students there.

In 2009 construction of a new building began.

November 2010 they began tearing down the old building.

This was the view from my front porch during the demolition.

From its conception, the "New" Richardsville Elementary - the nation's first net-zero energy public school - was designed to be an affordable facility.

If you are unfamiliar with the term "net-zero", it basically describes a structure that generates as much (or more) energy than it needs to operate. it does this through renewable energy resources such as wind and solar.

Besides the fact that it completely generates its own energy, Richardsville Elementary is your typical school with classrooms, cafeteria, library, gymnasium, etc. It is designed and built as a tool to educate students on the value of energy conservation, solar, water conservation, recycling and more.

A "geothermal hallway" exposes piping manifolds and includes a temperature gauge so students can monitor the system's performance.

A "solar hallway" has a a laptop computer battery-charging station that students can see energy being received from the solar panels.

A "water conservation hallway" allows students to monitor the amount of rainwater collected and used to flush toilets throughout the school.

A "recycling hallway" enables students to monitor the quantities of materials collected and relates these to their global impact.

I wish I had pictures of these hallways to show you, but since my kids no longer attend the school my access is limited. I only visit once a year during the Fall Festival.

One part of the construction was put on hold due to a dispute with one of the construction crews.

For a few months this parking structure, which also has solar panels to help with the powering of the school, sat uncovered.

We were quite curious as what this structure was to be and why they stopped its construction. Then one evening while watching the local news we heard about the dispute.

It did create great shadows though.

Finally last month, the structure as well as the playground and some landscaping were completed.

It is a beautiful school and one that the community as well as the county is very proud of.

Happy Sunday!!

Knee Deep

Performed By: Zac Brown Band
Featuring: Jimmy Buffet
Written By: Wyatt Durrette, Zac Brown, Coy Bowles, and Jeffrey Steele
From the 2010 Album: You Get What You Give

The inspiration for the song came after a break-up between Durrette and his girlfriend at the time. He knew the best cure for his broken heart was just escaping reality for a few days.

Gonna put the the world away for a minute,
Pretend I don't live in it.
Sunshine gonna wash my blues away.

(Roadside beach access between Daytona and St. Augustine - Honeymoon Trip 2008)

Had sweet love but I lost it.
She He got too close so I fought her him.
Now I'm lost in the world trying to find me a better way.

(St. Augustine Lighthouse - 2008)

Wishing I was knee deep in the water somewhere,
Got the blue sky breeze and it don't seem fair,

(Tybee Island, Georgia - 2007)

Only worry in the world is the tide gonna reach my chair.

And I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise.

(Tybee Island - 2007)

Wrote a note said be back in a minute.

Bought a boat and I sailed off in it.

Don't think anybody gonna miss me anyway.

(St. Augustine, Florida - June 2008)

Mind on a permanent vacation.
The ocean is my only medication.
Wishing my condition ain't ever gonna go away.

(Balcony of our hotel - Daytona Beach 2008)

'Cause now I'm knee deep in the water somewhere,
Got the blue sky breeze blowing wind through my hair.

Driving Shadows

It has been uncommonly warm this week with temperatures in the upper 70s to mid 80s. Tuesday was a beautiful day with the sun shining brightly and I took advantage of that to look for shadows. I knew this would most likely be my best chance this week as the weather was predicted to be cloudy and stormy the rest of the week. (And it was.)

My husband and I were sitting at a traffic light when I noticed the lights on one of the buildings was casting circles on the wall.

As we drove just a little further, I noticed shadows of one of the surrounding buildings on the roadway. You can also see the reflection of the buildings in the windows of the Justice Center.

Pulling into our driveway I saw the shadow of our neighbor's Easter flag on their house.

Be sure to check out the photos others have posted this week on these two wonderful Memes!!

I Feel Good

Performed By: James Brown
1965 Album: I Feel Good (I Got You)

One of Brown's signature songs, and arguably his most widely-known recording.

The song, with almost identical tune and words, had first been recorded and released in 1962 by Yvonne Fair, one of Brown'r back-up singers, as "I Found You".  Fair released several singles in her own right produced by Brown, none of which were hits.

Brown reworked the song three years later as "I Got You (I Feel Good)" and recorded it. The song was Brown's highest-charting song, peaking at number three.

Whoa-oa-oa!

I feel good, I knew that I would, now.
I feel good, I knew that I would, now.
So good, so good, I got you!

(My Daughter - June 2008)

Whoa!

I feel nice, like sugar and spice.
I feel nice, like sugar and spice.
So nice, so nice, I got you.

(My Son and Daughter 2001)

When I hold you in my arms,
I know that I can't do no wrong.
And when I hold you in my arms,
My love won't do you no harm.

( My Mom & Dad  - On Their Wedding Day)

And I feel nice, like sugar and spice.
I feel nice, like sugar and spice.
So nice, so nice, I got you.

(Me, My Daughter, My Nephew, & My Niece - Truck Pull Louisville, Ky. 1998)

When I hold you in my arms,
I know that I can't do no wrong.
And when I hold you in my arms,
My love can't do me no harm.

(My Daughter & Her Boyfriend - Dec. 2011 - Guess thay didn't like what we were watching on tv)

And I feel nice, like sugar and spice.
I feel nice, like sugar and spice.
So nice, so nice, I got you.

(My Niece and Nephew - 1997)

Shadowy Birds

As the darkness of night fades, the sun does shine and with its light comes a wonderful world of shadows.

One of my favorite things to do is to watch the birds at my feeders. I can see these feeders from my kitchen and living room windows, as well as from my patio door and my laundry room door. Some of the birds I can identify easily, but others are not as easy to determine. They move so quickly that it is hard to see all their features clearly.

So I began putting small amounts of seeds on the brick wall of my patio so that I can watch the birds up close. Not all of the birds will come to the patio wall. But, I enjoy watching the ones that will. Plus it gives me an opportunity to get better pictures of them.

I love the way they seem to be looking right at me at times. Like they are asking, "What are you doing"?

The other morning I noticed that the sun was shining on the brick wall.

I also noticed that as the birds were perched on the wall and feeding they were casting their shadows on the wall. Being a shadow seeker, I was thrilled!
The first shadow here is of a Cardinal and the second is a Finch.

This one is a Dark Eyed Junco.

The birds below the feeders were creating birdy shadows too!

Even the tree were the feeders hang was leaving its shadow.

It was a great morning for watching birds and finding shadows! I must say I am sure happy to see the sun too, we have had so much rain and storms lately the sun is a very welcomed sight.

Thanks for stopping by!
