Another Year Begins

Song: We've Only Just Begun
Artists: The Carpenters
From The 1970 Album: Close To You
Written By: Roger Nichols & Paul Williams

This song is said to be The Carpenters "signature song".  Much of my teen years were spent listening to The Carpenters. Karen Carpenter had one of the most powerful voices around. It is funny, now as an adult, I find myself listening to Carpenters songs when I am in a sad mood.

We've only just begun to live.

White lace and promises,
A kiss for luck and we're on our way.

We've only begun,
Before the rising sun we fly.

So many roads to choose.

We start out walking,
And learn to run.
And yes! We've just begun.

Sharin' horizons that are new to us,
Watchin' the signs along the way.

Talkin' it over just the two of us,
Workin' together day to day,
together... together.

And when the evening comes we smile,
So much of life ahead.

We'll find a place where there's room to grow.

And yes! We've just begun.

  1. I love this song. You're right about Karen Carpenter's voice. And, too, the music makes me somehow sad now, when it was full of promise long ago. But still good music!
Wishing you plenty of good times and good music in the coming year.

  2. Oh my gosh....I guess I was just in the 'right' mood, but the song and your heartfelt images made my eyes water a bit. Especially the one where you begin to walk and learn to run.

Fabulous. I do think you've outdone yourself on this themesong!!!

  4. Hi Jeanette!!
I was a huge Carpenters fan too. Karen had a perfect voice and sang with such ease. Almost like she was speaking. What a tragic life she had living with anorexia when know one understood it.
Asheville NC is one of my favorit citys and oh how I love Biltmore visits. We have tickets for a spring 2012 tour during tulip season.
    Grat pictures,
