Hometown Scenery

This week I have enjoyed the drive to and from the office so much. The stretches of highway are becoming quite beautiful to travel.

I have driven a few of the back roads on my way home to enjoy the wonderful Fall views.
The road to this old bridge is not heavily traveled so I can stop to shoot a picture or two with no problem.  The bridge has wonderful shadows too, so it was a photo must.

This time of year as I am driving I am always on the look out for deer and turkey. There are a few areas in particular that they are often seen. My husband met up with a deer about a week ago, he has a big dent in the hood of his car now, courtesy of Mr. Buck.

I happened upon two turkeys this week. I always slow way down when I see them, as they will run across the road in front of you sometimes. There was no traffic on the road, so I was able to stop and capture this shot. I tried to get a photo of the two of them, but they ran off into the woods before I could get another shot.

Many yards are covered with leaves, making them such a beautiful fall scene.

I zoomed in on the leaves not noticing the shadow in the shot until I put the picture on my computer. An added plus. I guess it is the tree's branches casting the shadow, as there wasn't anything in the yard except the tree... and me.

Several yards in the area have these beautiful Burning Bush shrubs in them. I have always thought these were so nice with their brilliant deep red color. This yard has two of the larger ones in the area, their color is a little more dull than most of the smaller ones, but they are still quite beautiful.

Many barns are housing tobacco crops, just waiting for the farmers to begin the stripping process. With rain being forecast for the coming week, I am sure the farmers will be starting this process. The Holidays are right around the corner and they will be needing shopping money.

I know in the past, when we raised tobacco, we tried to take advantage of the fall rains to get as much tobacco stripped and sale ready before the holidays as we possibly could.

Linking up with Shadow Shot Sunday and Straight Out of the Camera.

  1. I've seen wild turkeys just once in my life. They are interesting birds, to be sure.

    SHADOW SHOW

    Shadows creeping through the land,
    Shadows dark on every hand—
If they should begin to glow,
You had better run, you know!

  2. Great photos - especially the turkey and the bridge. Burning bush shrubs are popular here, too.

  4. This part of KY looks beautiful with the soft colors on the trees and leafy carpets on the ground. In New England, autumn seems to be passing us by with less colorful foliage and now the 6" of snow yesterday.

The footbridge looks solid in its iron arches, the turkey with a bit of attitude but looking proud. I hope the barn continues to stand, although the wood looks creaky. A lovely place in Bluegrass land!

  7. Jeanette, great photos! I love the shadows. It is only just turning cool here. Maybe the leaves will start to turn, but it has been so dry. Oh well, I will enjoy your lovely pictures.

  11. Wow....just wow! What an incredible array of beauty. The turkey needs a heck of a lot more feed tho, to fatten 'im up for Turkey day, right? Love all these beautiful photos. The Autumn colors are always such a treat.

[ya, you and me both...I don't like to be IN The water on the beach, but love the sound of the surf and collecting shells! ===and the knife? Yep, that's what I thought too...a knife? On the beach?]

  12. wow, your area is beautiful. I get nervous this time of year when I drive, especially at night, because I know deer are on the move. I've been fortunate in that I've never encountered one with my car, and I want to keep it that way. when I lived in the country turkeys often used my yard as a playground. I loved watching them, and hearing their gobble. your photos are extraordinary, I especially like that bridge. happy week to you Jeanette.
