St. Augustine Shadows

It is fall break here, no school for a week. Several of my friends have hit the road for the beach. The mere thought of being at the beach got me to looking through pictures. So I thought I would post a few from our honeymoon trip to St. Augustine for my Shadow Shot Sunday Post. If you have been to St. Augustine, you know what a beautiful place it is and if you haven't visited there, I would highly recommend it.
There is so much to see and do there.

And, so many beautiful and interesting things to photograph!!

I had stopped to take a picture of my husband in front of the wooden school house, a group of men were walking by so I stopped to allow them to go through before I took my picture. All of a sudden one of the men stepped over to my husband, put his arm around his shoulder and said cheese. (he is the one in red) The other men were telling him to leave us alone, but he said that my husband needed someone to pose with. So I took the picture.

We stayed in the Casa Monica Hotel. The hotel was built in 1888 and was purchased by the railroad tycoon, Henry Flager a few months after being built. Flager College is just across the street from this hotel.

I love the Spanish influence of the buildings. The iron railings of the balconies made wonderful shadows on the walls.

The hotel offers it's guests rides around the city in this vintage car, for a fee of course.
I was more interested in trying to capture the shadows behind it though.

There is antique furniture throughout the hotel. This picture was taken just outside our room.

Thanks for stopping by. I hope you enjoyed the pictures and that you leave a comment or two. Also, be sure to head over to Hey Harriet for more shadow fun.

  1. I had to read more in Wikipedia. This city has very interesting history indeed.
It's interesting how strong Spanish influence is there and in Spain you can feel strong Arabic influence. Here in Helsinki you can feel Russian and Swedish influence...
    Happy Sunday!

    FOR LOVE OF SHADOW

Tell your shadow that you love her,
Spurn your shadow, if you dare.
Keep your shadow out of darkness,
Keep her in the sun’s harsh glare!

  8. This is a great place - the age and look here is far different that the modern Florida the tourists usually see. The hotel is stunning, even from the late 1800s, the style evokes the Spanish influence, which is proper as they were the Europeans that populated Florida. What a great getaway!
